A study shows that music reduces pain after surgery

.
It’s true that listening to your favorite music can help improve your mood, but a new study shows that music reduces pain and speed up the healing process after surgery.

A group of researchers from Brunel University, Queen Mary University of London, and Barts Health NHS Trust worked together on the study.

There were 72 studies and research projects done on the effects of music on pain, but neither the patients nor the doctors knew who was in pain.
Researchers found that patients who listened to music had less pain after surgery, used fewer painkillers, and were much less anxious.

All of the study participants who listened to music used less painkillers and felt better than those who didn’t.

The research found that music makes people feel better, and when people feel better, their brains release hormones and chemicals that make the immune system work better.
The research showed that when patients chose and listened to their favourite music, their pain went down and they needed less painkillers.

The most important thing is to find a song that the patient really likes, because if you don’t, the effect may be the opposite of what you want.

Doctors think it’s an important part of a patient’s recovery after surgery, but only music that the patient likes will help him.

Hyundai unveils Ioniq 6 to be launched 2024

Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 was a hit, and the Hyundia Ioniq 6 aims to do the same. Both cars share the same modular electric base, powertrains, tech features, and futuristic design accents.

Hyundai Ioniq 6

The interior is entirely exposed and built well. This rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 6 has a 77.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a 225-horsepower electric motor

Despite its 20-inch wheels, the Ioniq 6’s ride quality is excellent. The Ioniq 6 absorbs potholes and bumpy roads well, and the cabin is Mercedes S-Class silent. The steering rack is swift and straight, if numb, and there’s less body roll than in the Ioniq 5. Hyundai’s adjustable regenerative braking makes one-pedal driving easy. Overall, the Ioniq 6 is more grounded and sportier than the Ioniq 5.

It has 320 hp and 446 lb.-ft. The all-wheel-drive model’s 0-to-62-mph time is 5.1 seconds, but it feels faster. This more powerful Ioniq 6 feels the same dynamically as the rear-drive predecessor, so there’s no rotten egg. The RN22e concept car previewed a 577-hp Ioniq 6 N within the next couple of years.

The Ioniq 6 dashboard is similar to the Ioniq 5, with two 12.3-inch screens, narrow air vents, and a digital climate control panel with minimal physical buttons. Instead of a huge empty area below and a movable centre console and armrest like the 5, the 6 has a tall, fixed centre console bridge. The console contains cup holders, storage, a wireless charging pad, and capacity for a large bag. Dashboard and centre console feature pleasantly cushioned surfaces, and even lesser plastics don’t feel flimsy.

Hyundai moved the window controls and door lock buttons from the door panels to the centre console. The armrest appears to float off the door panel, which features a ribbed pattern. Even during the day, diffused ambient illumination reflects from the doors’ main panel and lower storage pocket. The rear doors feature window and lock switches, but they also offer cool lighting.

Despite the Ioniq 6’s sloping roofline, the inside is spacious. It has plenty of headroom and rear legroom rivals larger premium automobiles. The Ioniq 6 offers comfy seats, and the driver’s seat reclines fully for charging. Hyundai is also developing a fold-out table with USB-C ports for the Ioniq 6. The frunk is modest, but the sedan trunk can fit two sets of golf clubs.

Hyundai hasn’t announced price or specs for the US-market Ioniq 6, but this EV is enticing. The Ioniq 6 will be more efficient and include all the great features of the Ioniq 5.

Should you be worried about your child’s teething fever?

Teething fever is commonly considered a typical symptom of the appearance of milk teeth. However, there are no studies that would confirm this thesis. What’s with that teething fever? What is worth knowing about it? When is it acceptable, and when should it be considered disturbing?

teething fever
#image_title #site_title

A teething fever usually does not worry parents because it is treated like a natural thing. Meanwhile, experts are of the opinion that fever is not a typical symptom of tooth eruption. Only an elevated temperature (up to 37.8 degrees Celsius) is acceptable, which persists on the day of tooth eruption, although it may last up to 3 days.

Teething fever and other symptoms

Teething, i.e. eruption of an infant ‘s first milk teeth , although it is a natural process and a normal stage of dentition development, is usually not pleasant for both toddlers and their parents. There are many ailments associated with it. The appearance of milk teeth in a child may be accompanied by more or less severe general and local symptoms.

Studies carried out at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in Warsaw have shown that the appearance of the first teeth is most often accompanied by symptoms such as:

  • biting hard objects,
  • profuse salivation,
  • child anxiety,
  • sleep disturbances, waking up more often at night
  • lack of appetite due to pain.

Other symptoms of teething include:

  • low-grade fever ,
  • irritability, whining, tearfulness,
  • swelling, redness, softening of the gums,

Milk teeth are the first generation of teeth. Their buds appear in utero, although they usually begin to grow around 6 months of age. The milk moths grow in a specific order and the entire eruption process usually takes 2 years. The time of tooth eruption is genetically determined.

Why Teething Fever Can Happen?
A low-grade fever or a slight fever in an infant during teething may occur because the tooth has to press through a tight gap in the bone and then through the gum, which causes inflammation and, consequently, an increase in body temperature.

In most children , during the eruption of the first milk teeth, an increase in temperature of up to 37.8 degrees Celsius is observed, but this is not considered a fever. Fever, i.e. the temperature above 38.5 degrees Celsius, is therefore not closely related to the process of tooth eruption. This is not confirmed by the results of most scientific studies.

In the context of teething fever, it is not without significance that the eruption of the first teeth in infants coincides with the expiration of the immunity acquired from the mother. This is why infections are more common in the second half of the first year of life and can cause fever. The eruption of the first teeth may coincide with one of them.

How long can a fever last?

The increased temperature associated with teething may only occur on the day of the eruption of the tooth. If the infant’s low-grade fever lasts longer or there is a high fever, it is an indication to see a doctor.

High fever with teething

The child’s body temperature during tooth eruption should not exceed 37.8 degrees Celsius. Thus, a fever during teething (body temperature above 38.5 degrees Celsius) may indicate an infection. It is advisable to visit a doctor.

When should a fever be a concern?

Teething and a fever are a topic that should get parents’ attention. They should remember that during the eruption of the teeth, the child’s body temperature should not exceed 37.8 degrees Celsius and most often it should remain only on the day on which the tooth appeared. Additionally, it should be borne in mind that in infants, fever is often the only symptom of an infection, for example of the urinary tract .

When should a teething fever be a concern?

  • When it lasts for several days.
  • The fever is very high.
  • When the fever is accompanied by other ailments.

In order to be able to conclude that elevated body temperature, both low-grade fever and fever are associated with teething, an infectious cause should be ruled out.

Teething fever – how to relieve ailments?

In order to alleviate the discomfort of teething in a child, it is worth using proven methods. It will help:

  • a hard and cool teether that reduces itching of the gums,
  • lotions and gels to alleviate the symptoms of teething and to lubricate the gums
  • chamomile used for washing (with gauze wrapped around a finger, dipped in chamomile infusion).

What functions Cholesterol performs and reference values?

Our eating and sports habits influence our psychophysical well-being. To get a general idea of the state of health it is useful to undergo a blood test regularly. This allows you to monitor the levels of different substances such as cholesterol and sugars.

Cholesterol function

The Discovery of cholesterol in our blood test scare us. In reality, its presence is completely physiological and indispensable, as long as its levels in the blood are normal. In fact, it can represent a serious health risk when levels are higher than expected as this condition (hypercholesterolemia) can lead to the development of cardiovascular disease.

However, the presence of high cholesterol produces no symptoms, so it can quietly rise and put us in danger without our knowledge. To keep the levels under control, it is necessary to take a blood sample.

What is that Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is fat present in the blood. It is very important for our body, in particular for the correct fluidity of cell membranes and for the formation of sex hormones. It is largely produced by the body (80%) and a small part is introduced into our body with the diet (20%).

Cholesterol is transported in molecular structures which are called lipoproteins. Among the main lipoproteins are:

  • those with low density or LDL, also known as “bad” cholesterol , which transport excess cholesterol in circulation from the liver to the arteries, releasing it as a deposit in the vessels, resulting in the formation of atherosclerotic plaque, which hinders the flow of blood from the blood vessels ;
  • the high-density lipoproteins or HDL, on the other hand, known as “good” cholesterol, remove cholesterol from the tissues, and therefore also from the arteries, and return it to the liver, which eliminates it through the bile salts (bile).

So the former distribute cholesterol to the cells for use, the latter remove excess cholesterol returning it to the liver to be eliminated. The danger is highlighted when we have high LDL cholesterol . Having high HDL allows you to reduce the amount of excess cholesterol and, therefore, is not dangerous at all, “explains the doctor.

What functions does it perform?

Cholesterol performs various functions within our organism: it participates in the production of vitamin D (a fat-soluble protein essential for the health of bones, teeth and the immune system). It is also a fundamental component of cell membranes. Furthermore, it is part of the composition of bile salts and the myelin sheath, which is important for nerve transmission, and contributes to the formation of sex and adrenal hormones “, continues the expert.

What are the reference values?

A simple blood test performed in the morning on an empty stomach is the most effective way to check your cholesterol level and find out if you have hypercholesterolemia. The optimal values are:

  • Total cholesterol (roughly the sum of LDL and HDL cholesterol values): less than 200 mg / dL (milligrams per deciliter of blood). “High cholesterol” or “hypercholesterolemia” is defined as a total cholesterol value in the blood above 240 mg / dL.
  • “Bad” cholesterol LDL ( Low Density Lipoprotein ): ideal level below 115 mg / dl; normal level below 130 mg / dL “Good” HDL ( High Density Lipoprotein ) cholesterol: the higher the levels, the better. In general, for women they should not be lower than 50 mg / dL, and for men not lower than 45 mg / dL “.

    Your total cholesterol score is calculated using the equation: HDL level + LDL level + 20% of your triglyceride level.

What are the causes of high cholesterol?

High cholesterol can be caused by several conditions including:

  • genetic predisposition (hereditary or familial hypercholesterolemia);
  • overweight/obesity;
  • incorrect nutrition;
  • smoke;
  • poor physical activity;
  • presence of some metabolic diseases, such as diabetes

These are factors that, in addition to causing high cholesterol levels, affect the general health of the body.

How to prevent high cholesterol at the table

« Paying attention to the foods to be brought to the table is the first step to take to prevent high cholesterol. Here’s what to do:

  • reduce total fatty acids, especially saturated fats (present in foods of animal origin such as milk and cheeses, lard, butter, pork, beef, cured meats) and hydrogenated fats (margarines and products containing them, to be preferred instead is the extra virgin olive oil );
  • encourage the consumption of foods rich in omega-3 (fatty acids that promote the lowering of “bad” cholesterol) such as blue fish, dried fruit, oil seeds, etc …
  • reduce the consumption of carbohydrates with a high glycemic index (refined cereals, simple sugars, such as sweets, candies, pastries, etc.), to be replaced instead with whole carbohydrates;
  • increase the consumption of foods rich in fiber : vegetables, legumes and fruit;
  • prefer light cooking methods such as steam, griddle, oven;
  • reduce alcohol consumption;
  • drink a lot of water”.

The Mediterranean diet today represents a complete and varied diet that allows you to consume all the foods available, preferring those in season. The foresight to pay attention to the quantity of the portions that must satisfy personal energy needs is always valid.

Risks of High Cholesterol

When it is present in physiological quantities, cholesterol is important since it is involved in several fundamental processes for the functioning of the organism. Otherwise, its presence in excessive quantities constitutes ONE of the risk factors (not the only, nor the worst) for cardiovascular diseases such as ischemia and heart attack.

For an estimate of cardiovascular risk, the guidelines tell us not to look only at the total cholesterol value. Instead, it is more appropriate to consider the relationship between total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol. This value should never exceed 5 in men and 4.5 in women “.

In general, therefore, cholesterol is a fatty substance with important functions in the body, but in the case of high levels can represent a health risk. Maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle and associating a regular check of its presence in the blood is the most effective way to prevent hypercholesterolemia.

Ginger is healthy and good for digestion

Not a pregnant, nauseous woman who has not been advised to take ginger for nausea. In Chinese medicine, ginger has been known for centuries for its positive effect on the stomach and digestion. Ginger could also be beneficial for the flu and could even prevent colon cancer.

What exactly is ginger? Ginger is a tuber root of the ginger plant. It was used in the Middle Ages to flavor dishes. You don’t eat ginger neat, you do make dishes tastier with it. You can buy ginger as a fresh tuber, but also candied, as a powder, or as a syrup.

In Chinese medicine, ginger is known for its positive effect on digestion, the stomach area and the lungs. In addition, ginger is said to have an analgesic effect. In the meantime, it is no longer just Chinese medicine that believes in the beneficial effects of ginger. Several scientific studies have shown that ginger contains anti-inflammatory substances.

colon cancer

Research has shown that ginger can help prevent tumors from forming. Research from the University of Michigan shows that certain ingredients in ginger may play a role in the prevention of colon cancer. The first research results are favorable. Follow-up research should show whether this is actually the case. In addition, taking a ginger supplement brought a number of side effects such as flatulence, heartburn, and stomach upset.

Diabetes

In addition, ginger appears to be effective in diabetes. Australian scientists at the University of Sydney discovered that ginger keeps blood glucose under control. The root tuber appears to be able to increase glucose uptake in muscle cells independently of insulin. This too needs to be further researched.

Flu

What ginger certainly helps against is nausea and the flu. Ginger is often used to alleviate these complaints. Add freshly grated ginger to other foods or have a glass of ginger tea or ginger beer.

Migraine

Research has also shown that ginger helps with migraines . Sumatriptan, a migraine drug, was compared to one-eighth of a teaspoon of ginger powder. It turned out that the ginger works just as well and just as quickly as the medicine. In addition, twenty percent of the drug suffered from side effects such as heart palpitations, dizziness and heartburn, while only one in twenty-five people indicated that they had some stomach problems with the ginger powder. Not a bad outcome, if only because an eighth of a teaspoon is much cheaper than the medicine.

Menstrual complaints

Ginger also seems to help with menstrual pain . In one study, women were given a quarter of a teaspoon of ginger powder three times during the first three days of their period. On a scale of 1 to 10, this group’s pain decreased from seven to five, while the group receiving a placebo noticed no change. Even one-eighth of a teaspoon of ginger powder reduced the pain from eight to six. In the end, ginger powder was compared to ibuprofen and yes, the ginger worked just as well.

When buying ginger, make sure that the tubers are firm and not dried out. If there are suckers on the tubers, that’s no problem. You can use that, but the taste is less strong. You can store fresh ginger in an open plastic bag in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator for about two to three weeks. Candied ginger and ginger powder can be stored for months.

Rain water can cause cancer, research says

A recent study conducted by European experts has shown that the spread of hazardous chemicals used worldwide has increased the chances of dangerous diseases spreading on the ground and later getting these chemicals into rainwater which can cause cancer.

According to the British newspaper ‘The Independent’ , the research conducted by the experts of Stockholm University stated that the waste of dangerous chemicals all over the world has spread to the corners by joining the rainwater and people get cancer by drinking the rainwater. can become victims of dangerous diseases including

In this regard, it was reported that the waste of dangerous chemicals called ‘Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)’ is spreading diseases in the rain water.

The above mentioned chemicals are considered extremely dangerous and may take thousands of years to disappear.

These dangerous chemicals are also called Forever Chemicals .

Initially produced by a few companies in the 1950s, these chemicals are used in frying pans, foam, construction materials, and food packaging containers.

The above mentioned chemicals are not visible but due to adding them to things, their life span is increased along with making them stronger, but these chemicals are harmful to human health.

International organizations and forces have been trying for many years to ban these two chemicals and in the last few years there has been a significant reduction in the production of these chemicals, however these chemicals are still used worldwide and products made from such chemicals After being thrown on the ground as waste, these chemicals are being transferred to the rain water during the rain.

According to experts, the above mentioned chemicals can cause other diseases including cancer and respiratory diseases and the same was reported in earlier research in this regard.
