The Inflation Reduction Act includes a $35 a month limit on what patients pay out of pocket for insulin. But that’s only for those with Medicare; it’s estimated that there are more than 21 million people left out of the legislation who still have to pay tens of thousands of dollars a year for the life-saving medicine. Two brothers tell NBC News’ Gadi Schwartz about their anger at the exclusion. “We don’t have other options,” one says.

Abbott Freestyle Libre 3 Review — A Discrete CGM For Diabetics
Results of FreeStyle Libre 3 and Dexcom G7 head-to-head review. I share my experience with these two CGM systems in a comprehensive video. What is continuous glucose monitoring?
Throughout the day and night, blood sugar levels are automatically monitored by continuous glucose monitoring. Your blood glucose level is always readily apparent. Observe how your glucose levels fluctuate over a few hours or days to identify patterns. If you can monitor your glucose levels in real-time, you will be better able to balance your diet, physical activity, and medication throughout the day.
How does a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) work?
A CGM operates through a small sensor that is typically implanted subcutaneously on the abdomen or arm. The sensor measures your interstitial glucose level, or the glucose present in the fluid between your cells. Every few minutes, the glucose is measured by the sensor. The data is transmitted wirelessly from a transmitter to a monitor. As a separate item or as a component of an insulin pump, you may carry the monitor in your pocket or purse. Some CGMs transmit data directly to a tablet or mobile device. The American Diabetes Association’s product guide lists a variety of readily available models.

Coffee’s earliest consumption dates back millennia when the tribesmen of Ethiopia used its ground-up berries to help aid concentration during prayer.
Arriving in Europe in the 17th century, Coffee quickly began to replace beer and wine as a favourite breakfast drink.
In the 20th century, coffee was blamed for high blood pressure and heart attacks, and more recently linked to a rising epidemic of poor sleep.
None of this has prevented coffee’s relentless rise. Over 2 billion cups of the stuff are drunk each day.
So, is coffee a guilty treat as many of us suspect? Or is it a health drink feeding your good gut bacteria?
In this episode, Jonathan speaks with James Hoffmann and Tim Spector to find out. They discuss how coffee affects your gut bacteria, your hormones and your heart, whether decaffeinated coffee is healthy, and discover some of coffee’s most surprising side effects – which could come in handy if you find yourself in the jungle.
James Hoffmann is a leading coffee expert and author of the World Atlas of Coffee and co-founder & chairman of the Square Mile Coffee Roasters.
Tim Spector is a co-founder at ZOE and one of the top 100 most cited scientists in the world.

What happens to blood glucose during fasting? Most of the time, blood glucose goes down, but not to levels that are dangerous. However, sometimes the blood glucose goes up, in a variation of the Dawn Phenomenon. Check out my blog at
