Oil prices are declining continuously. Prices have touched to $88 a barrel from $147 which is the lowest in the seven months. Whenever there is an increase in the international market the government of Pakistan is quick to pass on the burden to the consumer but whenever there is a decrease in the prices, the benefit is not passed on to the consumers and all sorts of excuses are brought forward to defend the decision.
Government should have reduced prices at least by 25 per cent which would have given immediate relief to almost segments of the society. It would also have resulted in lowering of food items and groceries whose prices are directly linked with oil prices. Pakistan government may fill its coffers by not giving relief to the people, but it will lose confidence of the people as well.
