The judges of the superior judiciary in the country who have been saying that they will fight to the end for constitution, principle and justice are lining up to save their jobs. Eight judges of the Sindh High Court and four judges of the Peshawar High Court have taken fresh oath against their earlier stand. According to news reports some judges of the Peshawar High Court, including its Chief Justice have also agreed to take new oath.
The role of the judiciary in Pakistan has never been exemplary. They have always acted to protect their petty interests and sided with the powerful establishment. The fresh oath by the judges has implicitly accepted the as legitimate the action taken by President Pervez Musharraf on 3rd November 2007. If the action of the president was illegal there would have been no need for a fresh oath and a simple executive order would have been enough.
