Pakistan is an unfortunate country. It is faced with difficult times. It has always been faced with difficult times. I have been hearing since my childhood that the country is passing through difficult times. Pakistan came to prominence after the 9/11 attack in the United States as the front line ally in the war againt terror. When I say that it is an unfortunate country I mean that despite being the front line ally and doing all it can, making all sorts of sacrifices, it is being accused of harboring Taliban and Al Qaeda elements. It is alleged that there are safe havens inside Pakistan along the Afghanistan border where Taliban and Al Qaeda are taking positions.
There have been a number of suicide bomb attacks in the country in which hundreds of people of lost their lives. Suicide attacks were an unknown phenomenon in Pakistan before the bloody war on terror. It has now become common. Suicide attacks are increasing day by day.
As a result of the deteriorating law and order situations and political uncertainty, the economy of the country, which has gained some stability during the past eight years, is in really bad shape. The foreign reserves of the country are depleting by each passing day. The current account deficit is increasing. Pakistani rupee has shee considerable value against dollar during the past six months.
Now there has been another deadly attack in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The target was the Marriott hotel which is frequented by foreigners in the city. The blast has destroyed the building of the hotel completely. It is being said that at least 1000 kg explosive material was used to carry out the attack. It is feared that death toll may reach 100. Hundreds have been injured.
Pakistan has to pay a heavy price for each bomb attack. The foreign investors are not coming in the country and the local investors are taking their investment out of the country. I wonder what would happen in the coming days.
The sad thing is this that our leaders do not seem to be perturbed. They are busy in the murky power game. May God help Pakistan
