Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines have merged to form world’s biggest airline. The $2.6 billion merger will result in a larger Delta Air Lines with services in nearly 375 cities worldwide. It will save the airline nearly $2bn in cost savings and revenue enhancement.

This is the first domestic airlines combination in three years after approval from the US Justice Department. The airline industry is facing serious economic crisis because of rising fuel prices. This merger has given speculation about further consolidation in future. Full integration of the two airlines would take at least two years.
