Urdu-speaking migrants from Bihar and UP in the then East Pakistan were extremely vibrant segment of population, making major contribution in economy and administration. They were virtually running the railway. Since their departure in 71, railway never looked up. They were expert craftsmen. Those who are still here are doing very well from Banarsi sari to light engineering. One of the largest industrial complex ‘Rahimafrooz’, is owned by Urdu-speaking migrant family. One of the problems that was created after 1947, was that of building separate housing colonies, Urdu schools, job quotas etc for the immigrants that, in effect, hindered integration with the mainstream population. This divide exploded in 71, much to the detriment of both the communities. I hope we all live in peace now, here in B’desh, and more so in Pakistan and India.

What are the benefits of maintaining a permanent state of enimity with India?

Biggest beneficiary is the military, their corporate interest is secured. A state of enmity will mean higher mil expenditure, more defense purchase, more kickbacks, higher political profile. We all know Gen. Kyani. How many will know the name of Indian Army Chief’s name? I don’t.

In my eyes, it is uneasy friendship where we love each other in some way and prefer to hate each other in other way.

It is dissatisfaction of perceived improper division , actually division of such size may never look proper , each one will compromise and has to accept it peacefully.It has taken worst angel by giving India a Hindu face and Pakistan a Muslim face .

Newsweek has published a lists of 50 most powerful men in the world. President-elect Barack Obama tops the lists. Surprisingly the General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani of Pakistan Army ranks 20th. The question is what makes General Kayani this much powerful. Ever since the start of war against terror, Pakistan has come on the centre stage. General Kayani heads Pakistan Army that is actively involved in the war in the tribal areas of country.

Pakistan has a long history of martial laws. If the political situation in Pakistan worsens, he will emerge as the most important men. Ultimately, in the politics of Pakistan, it is the chief of army staff, whose voice matters. General Kayani became the chief of army staff after General Pervez Musharraf doffed his uniform. He has also served as the director general of Inter Services Intelligence Agency.

I have spoken in public forum in the presence of Indian ministers and secretaries and so many times here that the idelogical Centre of Sunni terror lies in Darul Ulum, but they do not want to rock the boat. In fact, every Indian PM, Chief Minister of UP makes a pilgrimage there.
