Grandiose begging

President Zardari with King Abdullah

President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari is in Saudi Arabia on an urgent visit to seek royal munificence. The entourage of the president consists of 200 members who mostly comprise those ministers and parliamentarians who will not perform any function during the visit. Among those travelling with the president are minister for local government, minister for law and parliamentary affairs, minister for manpower and overseas Pakistanis and minister for interior affairs. Considering the fact that that the basic idea for the visit is to seek financial help, one fails to understand why so many unwanted people are travelling with the president. Does it make sense to take 200 persons on a foreign trip at a time when the country is passing through a financial crisis that is being described as worst in the history of the country?

Ever since the formation of this government of the people, the number of foreign trips of president and prime minister has increased. Either the president is out of the country or the prime minister is travelling abroad. The Jang has reported that there was complete confusion at the airport before the departure as the number of aspirants to go with the president increased. In my opinion only the foreign minister and advisor to the prime minister on finance should have accompanied. Pakistan cannot afford such luxury foreign trips at the expense of the taxpayer’s money.

Cheap laptops

My laptop is my world. I have been using laptop for quite some time now and I am so much used to it that I do not like working on a desktop computer at all. I can say that my laptop is my prized possession. Over the years prices of laptops have fallen considerably which has made it affordable. There are several companies that are marketing cheap laptops such as Acer, Toshiba, Asus, HP and Compaq. These companies not only produce expensive laptops but they also produce cheap laptops for ordinary users such as students.

I have used several laptops. Nowadays I am using Acer Aspire. I use it at home as well as office. Acer Asipire series laptops are cheap and good for normal users. The one I am using has a DVD – RW, it as WIFI and bluetooth connectivity. The processor speed is fairly good. I have also used HP Pavillion sometimes back. It is a wonderful machine.

Save Buckets is a UK based website where you can save a whole load of money on various laptop brands. They prices that they are offering are really amazing. If you are interested in buying a a laptop, I would recommend you to visit their website and compare prices before actually buying.

General Petraeus visited Pakistan with Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher. It was the first visit of the general after assuming command of the US Central Command. The news got wide coverage in Pakistani as well as foreign press. The way the news has been reported in Pakistani and US media make a sharp contrast.

In Pakistan it has been reported that the visiting US general has been warned over attacks inside Pakistani territory. The same news has been reported in CNN but in a quite different manner. CNN says that US general hears Pakistani complaints about attacks. Listen to what the general has to say in an interview by CNN.

King Khan to play oridinary Indian

Bollywood super star King Khan will play the character of an ordinary man in his new film “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”. The story of the film is inspired from a contestant of the TV show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. Shah Rukh Khan will cast off his glamorous image and act like an ordinary man.

The last film in which Khan starred was Om Shanti Om and it was a runaway hit. Lets wait for this new endeavor. Shah Rukh turned 43 on November 2, 2008. At the age of 43 he has touched the height of his career.

Jacky Shroff and vintage cars

Jacky Shroff is one of my favorite Bollywood stars.  I did not know that he has a passion for vintage cars. I found this photo on Yahoo. Jacky Shroff is standing next to his vintage 1937 Jaguar SS100 in an exhibition and competition of vintage cars in Mumbai. The event took place on November 1, 2008.

General Petraeus meets President Zardari

Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher and General David Petraeus have met President Asif Zardari. According to the official news agency of Pakistan, Zardari told General Petraeus that the attacks by drones must stop as they are counterproductive and difficult to explain by a democratically elected government.

The General on the other hand was very frank in his remarks. He said that the tone of conversation during the talks with Pakistani officials was very forthright and frank. Each meeting had a message. I think that the United States is not ready to accept the Pakistani viewpoint on this issue. More attacks by drone are likely in future as well. Pakistan being under strong economic pressure will not be able to resist these attacks.

Deposed Chief Justice asked to favour Musharraf

A former Deputy Attorney General Raja Muhammad Irshad has claimed that he was asked to convey to the deposed Chief Justice Iftakhar Choudhry to give favourable judgment in the constitutional petition challenging the eligibility of Pervez Musharraf to contest the presidential election in uniform. The Deputy Attorney General has said in an interview with DawnNews which will be aired soon that the Chief Justice was annoyed and rejected the request with contempt.

I personally feel that the Chief Justice was not justified in taking up the eligibility case against the president. He had already taken oath under him as the president in uniform. He had no moral standing to challenge him for his re-election. The judicial crisis started in the country because of the uncompromising attitude of judges, particularly the chief justice. A way out could have been found out. Both the president and the chief justice stuck to their guns and ultimately the country suffered.

Boucher in Islamabad with fresh instructions

Boucher, Ann Patterson and General Petraeus with Ahmed Mukhtar

General Petraeus and Richard Boucher are once again in the Federal Capital Islamabad. This is the first visit by General Petraeus after assuming the command of Centcom. The arrival of the worthy gentlemen is not without reason. It is said that they have arrived to discuss the possibility of carrying out more raids in Fata against militant hideouts.

General Petraeus with Ahmed Mukhtar

I think that the US must show some change in its policy. Continued raids inside Pakistan will create even bigger problems for the civil government. The Prime Minister has already said that air raids by US drones have created big problems for the government. Let’s wait for the outcome of this visit.

According to reports Richard Boucher and General Petraeus have met Prime Minister Gilani. Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is also present in the meeting. They have also met with Minister for Defence Choudhry Ahmed Mukhtar. I am sure that something serious is being considered.

Expansion of Federal Cabinet

Pakistan is passing through grave economic crisis. It was the need of the hour to adopt austerity in government affairs and cut on unnecessary expenses. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had also claimed in his first speech in the National Assembly that his government would adopt strict measures to cut expenses.

It is saddening to learn that the government has decided to induct 20 more ministers in the cabinet which will be a huge burden on the national exchequer. The existing number of ministers is more than enough. The expansion only for the sake of accommodating more and more party loyalists is uncalled for. At a time when the country is passing through the worst economic crisis in its history this expansion indicates that the government is more grabbing more and more power instead of solving problems of the people.

India and China to lead the world in coming decades

Rupert Murdoch has said that India and China will help reshape the world in the next few decades. The economic metamorphosis that is taking place in the two countries will change the world. The media mogul said that the rise of economies was creating a new middle class that would set new benchmark for global competitiveness.

Both the countries are moving forward at rapid pace after getting free from the clutches of deprivation and backwardness. The people in both the countries are intent upon changing their fate by developing skills and showing the world that they can do.

India and China have shown that people can change their lives through hard work and dedication.
