I was given the task of purchasing wall lighting for the renovation of our office. I had no such experience in past. I had to find wall lighting that would give a new atmosphere to the office. A delegation of Pakistani officials is leaving for Dubai to hold talks with IMF. The talks will be held to know the progress made by the country in implementation of IMF program so that another installment might be released. While the government is seeking financial assistance from foreign donors, it has refused to cut its own expenses. In this country of ours, that is always looking to foreign nations or so called friends for financial assistance, there are more than 90 people who are either ministers or enjoy the status of a federal minister.

It is these people who are always clamoring to introduce austerity and simplicity. When they come to power, they throw everything to wind, and start enriching themselves. In my opinion IMF and other donor institutions, must make it a primary conditions that the federal cabinet will not comprise of more than 25 members.

Finally we see a political deal in Zimbabwe. In a power sharing deal opposition leader Tsvangirai has taken oath as the Prime Minister of the country. But the big question is if he would be able to bring some sense in the economy of the country.

Once a thriving African country has been brought to this stage that nearly everything is in tatters. Most of the schools and hospitals are closed and roads, sewers and other public amenities are in bad shape. The inflation is the highest in the world. The resources of income of the country have virtually disappeared but the requirement has soared up.

Lets see if the new PM will be able to bring some sense in the politics and the economy of the country. My advice to president  Mugabe is that he must announce a date in near future to step down. Some of the problems will be solved if he is no more on the scene.

President Barack Obama has asked the Congress to pass the stimulus bill and not play games. Lets us see if this stimulus bill sales through Congress. It is expected that the $838 billion dollar package that has been made to jolt the economy from recession will have tough time in the Congress. I can say that the honeymoon period for the president is over. He will have to take tough decisions that will have far reaching consequences on the economy of the country.

It is to be seen if the stimulus package or any other such thing provides for common people as well or is it so that only large commercial organizations and banks going to be the main beneficiary. I think that Congress will take into consideration every aspect of the stimulus package.

There is a crisis in autos industry in the United States. The three leading companies have reported loss and shut down their operation to cut losses. Ford Motor company has reported a loss of nearly $5.9bn dollars but has said that it would not seek help from government in order to continue. The bail-out package for auto industry was rejected by the Senate.

Lets wait for the economic turnaround, but I think this situation is not going to improve in the near future.

It seems that Government of Pakistan has decided to confer Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam to every  one who lands from United States with a fresh set of instructions. The US government has approved a bail-out package of $6bn for General Motors. The money will be given from the $700bn Wall Street Fund meant for supporting banks and financial institutions facing financial problems. Top three auto manufacturers of the country had sought government support for their survival as they were facing acute financial problems. The proposed package for the auto industry was rejected by the Senate.
